What is it like to study this course and how will I be assessed?

This course will help you develop the basic skills, knowledge and qualities required for further study or employment in performing arts.

You will be taught mainly in a group but you will also need to be motivated to work independently on some assignments.  For your Performing Arts course you will be assessed via assignments and coursework. You will need to sit tests for your maths and English.

What topics will I study?

You will study 10 units including:

  • Introduction to Performing Arts
  • Exploring Acting Skills
  • Technical Support for Performance
  • Exploring Musical Theatre

An important element of this course is also to improve your ability in maths and English.

What experiences will I get?

There will be an opportunity for a week of work experience in the summer term.

What are the entry requirements?

English and maths entry requirements: Grade 2 in English language and in maths.
Plus standard entry requirements: Two GCSEs at grade 2 or above, or equivalent.
Subject specific entry requirements or recommendations: An interest in gaining a job in the performing arts industry is really important.

What can I study alongside this course?

This course is studied on its own and cannot be combined with other courses.

What facilities are there?

You will have access to all the college facilities, including a student restaurant, full media suite, gym and fully equipped learning resource centre.

What can the course lead on to?

On successful completion you may be able to progress to a Level 2 course or an apprenticeship. Some students choose to seek employment.

Are there any additional costs?

Course fees are applicable.

This further education course is free for all 16-18 year olds who are resident in the UK and the European Economic Area for the last 3 years. (You must be under 19 on 31st August in the calendar year that you start your course).
