This course is part of the Modular Acceleration Programme (MAP) that enables learners to study modules from a Higher Technical Qualification. More information on the MAP programme can be found here.
This module explores the complex organisational structure of NGOs in UK football and how the concept of ‘community’ is interpreted and applied across a variety of community football development initiatives. It will explore good practice in theoretical aspects of leadership, business and management, and how this can be applied to the general governance of football at a variety of levels.
It considers issues of equality in community sport, exploring the ‘target group’ philosophy and barriers to participation in football, and how selected agencies can help to develop engagement, specifically considering the role of football in the community schemes.
Delivery will be face-to-face and consist of a mixture of lectures, seminars, group work, visits and practical sessions.
The module will comprise two 20 credit units from our FdA Football Development and Management which is validated by Marjon University
The component modules are:
- FCDC52 Introduction to Football Business and Management
- FDVC01 Football in the Community
The course will be delivered in 3 hours per week of timetabled sessions over 30 weeks.
There will be 4 assessments in total. A report of 2,500 words and a presentation in semester 1, and a presentation and an examination in semester 2. The assessments will be those used for full-time learners studying the corresponding module. Each assessment will carry equal weighting.
If learners fail any assessment, they will have the opportunity to resit over the summer referral period which finishes mid-August 2025.
*Free tuition fees, with nothing for the student to pay. However the funding accessed for MAP will reduce the amount remaining in a future Lifelong Learning Entitlement account.
