It is ideal for Level 3 students that want to achieve full Accounting Technician status. AAT level 4 will provide you with a solid base to start an accountancy career. The course is favoured by a lot of employers for entry-level vacancies or people starting a new career in accountancy. The AAT qualification will provide you with a solid platform and understanding of accountancy. By the end of the AAT Level 4 course you will be able to apply accounting concepts, principles and rules to confidently work in a financial accounting or management accounting role at a professional level. Students must pass four mandatory units (including one synoptic assessment) plus two optional units to achieve the qualification. Each unit is assessed by an external marked exam with six units in total. The exams are approximately 2 ½ hours each. It typically takes a student between 12 and 18 months to pass the entire course.

What topics will I study?
The AAT Professional Diploma in Accounting covers high – level accounting and finance topics and tasks. Students will look at and become comfortable with a wide range of financial management skills and applications, and gain competencies in: drafting financial statements for limited companies; recommending accounting systems strategy; and constructing and presenting complex management accounting reports. Students will also learn about two specialist subjects in the optional units.
The mandatory units are:
· Management Accounting: Budgeting
· Management Accounting: Decision and Control
· Financial Statements of Limited Companies
· Synoptic assessment
Most students choose to study the two optional units of Personal Tax and Business Tax in addition to the above mandatory units. It may also be possible for you to take an alternative or additional optional unit in one of the following subjects:
· External Audit
· Credit Management
· Cash and Treasury Management
Once qualified, students automatically become AAT affiliate members and, with relevant work experience, will qualify for full AAT membership, which will allow them to use the designators letters MAAT after their name. Many students progress on from AAT Level 4 to be ACCA or ACA qualified. This qualification can give students exemptions towards all or parts of the UK’s chartered and certified accountancy qualifications.
- Entry Requirements
You will need to have attained AAT Level 3 grade Merit overall.
Please note: It is important that you apply and pay for your course at least one week before the course starts to ensure that you will have access to all the facilities and resources in your first week. Please be aware that there are no car parking facilities at Exeter College city centre sites, but public car parks are available across the city.
You will study at Bradninch Court, one of our Professional and Adult learning centres and have access to the college’s Learning Resource Centres.
