Overview

This course is part of the Modular Acceleration Programme (MAP) that enables learners to study modules from a Higher Technical Qualification. More information on the MAP programme can be found here.

The aim of this module is to support upskilling within the workplace and to support preparation for supervisory and managerial roles within the construction industry. It will introduce you to the concepts of business management, financial control and the skills required to successfully manage the diverse groups of people on a building site.

Students will develop the skills and techniques needed to manage the people and processes of a building site, ensuring the quality of work, safe working practices, the interactions of different trades and the management of the resources available to them. You will examine a range of factors that influence the ways in which companies grow, raise finance and control their costs and resources.

Delivery will be face-to-face and consist of a mixture of lectures, seminars and group work. Course delivery and assessment will run over 1 day per week, each 3.25 hours timetabled sessions, for 34 weeks.

The module will comprise two 15 credit units from the HNC Construction Management for England which is awarded by Pearson.

The component modules are:

  • Unit 11: Financial Management & Business Practices in Construction
  • Unit 20: Site Supervision & Operations

There will be 4 assessments in total to cover all learning outcomes outlined by Pearson.

If learners fail any assessment, they will have the opportunity to resit over the summer referral period which finishes mid-August 2025.

*Free tuition fees, with nothing for the student to pay. However the funding accessed for MAP will reduce the amount remaining in a future Lifelong Learning Entitlement account.
