Overview

This Apprenticeship is aimed at those who want to become a full time Sports Coach either in the community, school or high performance sport sectors.

Topics include:

  • Develop and update own coaching philosophy.
  • Develop and implement evidence-based, progressive coaching systems.
  • Measure the impact of coaching strategies on participants.
  • Measure the impact of coaching strategies on participants’ sustainable engagement and development.

Apprentices will need to be working towards and achieve the following job role requirements before their end point assessment:

  • Learners must coach regularly within the community, school or high performance sport sectors.
  • Learners must complete a range of ongoing continuing professional qualifications to ensure they have the knowledge, skills and behaviours to thrive within the sport coaching industry.
  • Learners must engage with their employer to grow sporting provision and attainment.

Next steps: On completion you could progress on to university or into full time employment.

Entry Requirements

Every employer is different and therefore the entry requirements can vary. As a guide, you ideally need GCSE grade 4 in English Language and Maths. However, we will work with you and  provide additional support to help you achieve their requirements, either prior to your Apprenticeship or during the delivery of your programme.

Facilities

This Apprenticeship takes place in Exwick Sports Pavillion/Victoria house in Exeter.

We have outstanding sports and fitness facilities. The Exwick Sports Pavilion features playing fields, rugby and football pitches, including a full size 3G astroturf pitch and tennis facilities.

In addition we also have a high specification, purpose built Sports Hall including a well equipped fitness centre and dance studio.

Apprentices have access to all facilities across the College. Our Learning Resource Centres (LRCs) give you access to a huge range of online books and resources to help you with your studies.
