A CNC/Machinist Engineer Apprentice will be predominantly involved in highly skilled, complex and precision work.

Overview

A CNC/Machinist Engineer Apprentice will be predominantly involved in highly skilled, complex and precision work. You will be machining components from specialist materials using conventional and/or CNC machine tools such as centre lathes, vertical and horizontal milling machines, horizontal and cylindrical grinding machines, electro discharge machines, single and multi- axis CNC machine tools centre. You will be expected to be able set up, operate and adjust/edit equipment settings as applicable to the machine tool being used. When using CNC equipment, you will be expected to be able to produce, prove and/or edit programmes.

You will:

  • Review relevant data and documentation used to produce machined components
  • Learn the most efficient and effective approach to machine the component using a range of tools, machining process and Techniques
  • Learn how to select and set up the correct tooling and work holding devices
  • Understand how to set and adjust the machine operating parameters to produce the work pieces to the required specification
  • Accurately select a range of measuring and testing equipment to check components that are required for quality and accuracy
  • Achieve Level 3 Diploma or Extended Diploma in Advanced Manufacturing Engineering and End Point Assessment
Entry Requirements

Every employer is different and therefore the entry requirements can vary. As a guide, you ideally need GCSE grade 4 in English and Maths and
in some cases ICT. You will also need to have achieved an Engineering Operative Level 2 Apprenticeship. However, we will work with you and provide additional support to help you achieve their requirements, either prior to your Apprenticeship or during the delivery of your programme.

Facilities

Apprentices have access to all facilities across College. These include the College Learning Resource Centres (LRCs) and the College Gym. Our world class Technology Centre provides aerospace, engineering and automotive students with state of the art equipment and learning spaces. Our CAD design suite includes 25 computers running the latest industry software, and the CAM workshop contains CNC machining equipment to give you an understanding of modern automated manufacture.
