Apprentices will need to be working towards and achieve the following job role requirements before their end point assessment:
Machining technicians produce complex and precision machined products that are typically used in machinery. They use a variety of machines to carry out their work. For example, centre lathes, vertical and horizontal milling machines, horizontal and cylindrical grinding machines.
The broad purpose of the occupation is to produce complex and precision work by machining components. Components are machined from metal or specialist materials using conventional or CNC machine tools. Machining Technicians interpret information and plan their activities. They also set up, operate, adjust or edit machine tool settings. When using CNC equipment, they can produce, prove or edit programmes. They inspect components and machinery, report issues and support continuous improvement activities.
Next steps: On completion you could progress on to the Level 4 Engineering Manufacture Technician or into full time employment.
- Entry Requirements
-
Every employer is different and therefore the entry requirements can vary. As a guide, you ideally need GCSE grade 4 in English and Maths and
in some cases ICT. You will also need to have achieved an Engineering Operative Level 2 Apprenticeship. However, we will work with you and provide additional support to help you achieve their requirements, either prior to your Apprenticeship or during the delivery of your programme. - Facilities
-
Apprentices have access to all facilities across College. These include the College Learning Resource Centres (LRCs) and the College Gym.
Our world class Technology Centre provides aerospace, engineering and automotive students with state of the art equipment and learning spaces. Our CAD design suite includes 25 computers running the latest industry software, and the CAM workshop contains CNC machining equipment to give you an understanding of modern automated manufacture.
