Community Activator Coach Apprenticeship

Coach and motivate clients towards their health and fitness goals, through the design and provision of creative and personalised exercise programmes and instruction. Offer basic complementary nutritional advice and overall lifestyle management. You can choose between two pathways on offer: Gym Instructor or PE & School Sport.

Overview

Gym Instructor Pathway

This Apprenticeship is aimed at those who want a career in health, fitness or physical activity leadership and would like to work in a gym setting. Learners will model an active lifestyle with a passion for sport, health and wellbeing. Apprentices are expected to be professional, reliable and safe when working with employers and performers of all abilities.

Topics include:

  • Leading performers
  • Building relationships
  • Developing and delivering safe coaching and physical activity sessions
  • Developing advanced skills in planning
  • Delivering and evaluating physical activity sessions
  • Project planning and implementation

Apprentices will need to be working towards and achieve the following job role requirements before their end point assessment:

  • Instructing and coaching a range of sports and physical activity sessions to learners of all abilities.
  • Working professionally and collaboratively with employers and learners.

PE & School Sport Pathway

This Apprenticeship standard is aimed at anyone who wants to deliver school sport and physical education. This Apprenticeship will develop the learner into a career in sport teaching, coaching or development. Apprentices are expected to be professional, reliable and safe when working with employers and performers of all abilities.

  • Leading performers
  • Building relationships
  • Developing safe coaching practices
  • Developing advanced skills in planning, delivering and evaluating physical activity sessions
  • Project planning and implementation

Apprentices will need to be working towards and achieve the following job role requirements before their end point assessment:

  • Teaching and coaching a range of sports to learners of all abilities.
  • Working professionally and collaboratively with employers and leaners.

Next Steps: On completion you could progress on to the L3 Community and Sport Health Officer, L3 Leisure Duty Manager or L3 Outdoor Activity Instructor.

Entry Requirements

Every employer is different and therefore the entry requirements can vary. As a guide, you ideally need GCSE grade 4 in English Language and Maths. However, we will work with you and  provide additional support to help you achieve their requirements, either prior to your Apprenticeship or during the delivery of your programme.

Facilities

This Apprenticeship takes place mainly with your employer but when at College you will mainly be at Victoria house in Exeter.

Exeter College has outstanding sports and fitness facilities, including a high specification, purpose built Sports Hall with a well equipped Gym and dance studio.

Apprentices have access to all facilities across the College. Our Learning Resource Centres (LRCs) give you access to a huge range of online books and resources to help you with your studies.
