Overview

This Apprenticeship is aimed at those who are interested in becoming a Civil Engineering Technician and wish to develop their practical and theoretical skills. This could lead to a further apprenticeship or career in a client, consulting or contracting organisation.

  • Understanding of general engineering/manufacturing mathematical and scientific principles
  • Obtaining, checking, and using the appropriate documentation

This Apprenticeship is ideal if you are skilled in maths and physics and have an interested in how our modern world is engineered. Water, Roads, Railways, Bridges are all areas involved in the complex work of Civil Engineering.

Apprentices will need to be working towards and achieve the following job role requirements before their End Point Assessment (EPA):

  • Contributing to design using engineering principles and software
  • Maintaining quality, health and safety procedures
  • Working with others and addressing health and safety matters
  • Demonstrating knowing when to seek advice
  • Working independently
  • Proactively solving problems and contribute to group discussions
  • Reflect on skills, knowledge and behaviours and seeks opportunities to develop

Next steps: You could progress to our Level Construction Design and Build Technician or Construction Site Engineering Technician Apprenticeships, or go into full time employment as a Junior Civil Engineer, working for a large civil engineering company, a local council or even one of the large water authorities or transport providers.

Entry Requirements

Every employer is different and therefore the entry requirements can vary. As a guide, you ideally need GCSE grade 4 in English Language and Maths. However, we will work with you and provide additional support to help you achieve their requirements, either prior to your Apprenticeship or during the delivery of your programme.

Facilities

You will study at our Future Skills Centre. The Centre aims to provide the region with a specialist facility for the delivery of training for future-facing high-tech jobs in engineering, digital, construction and clean growth.

Additional Costs

You will need safety boots, overalls and recommended text books.
