Civil Engineering Technician Apprenticeship

Work with construction professionals in the design, development, construction, commissioning, decommissioning, operation or maintenance of the built environment and infrastructure. Technicians will be required to have a broad skills base to work in areas which include sustainable construction, structural integrity, geotechnics, materials, tunnelling, marine and coastal engineering, water, waste management, flood management, transportation and power.

You will:

• Assist in the development of technical solutions by producing design models, calculations, reports and drawings, surveying a site, using appropriate analysis and relevant codes.
• Use appropriate software systems and other data gathering tools and tests to solve technical problems.
• Contribute to planning, managing work schedules, budgets and deadlines, and ensuring outputs comply with client and industry specifications, standards and guidance.
• Operate quality systems and Health, Safety and Risk Management procedures and checking specified technical aspects of site activities.
• Learn about safe working practices

This Apprenticeship is ideal if you are skilled in maths and physics and have an interested in how our modern world is engineered. Water, Roads, Railways, Bridges are all areas involved in the complex work of Civil Engineering.

Next steps: You could progress to our Level Construction Design and Build Technician or Construction Site Engineering Technician Apprenticeships, or go into full time employment as a Junior Civil Engineer, working for a large civil engineering company, a local council or even one of the large water authorities or transport providers.

Every employer is different and therefore the entry requirements can vary. As a guide, you ideally need GCSE grade 4 in English Language and Maths. However, we will work with you and provide additional support to help you achieve their requirements, either prior to your Apprenticeship or during the delivery of your programme.

Apprentices have access to all facilities across the College. These include the College Learning Resource Centres (LRCs) and the College Gym.

You will need safety boots, overalls and recommended text books.
