Overview

The broad purpose of the occupation is to conduct the general day-to-day maintenance required to keep a range of properties in a good state of repair. Property maintenance operatives conduct routine maintenance tasks, and minor planned and responsive repair works, using a broad range of fundamental trade skills including carpentry, joinery, plumbing, plastering, brick and block work, external works and associated finishing trades including tiling, painting, and decorating. Operatives use a wide variety of hand and power tools, materials, components, fixtures and fittings, ensuring work that is carried out is compliant with health and safety requirements, and meets building safety regulations and legislation. 

 Topics covered: 

  • Safely isolating and securing electrical or electronic supplies. 
  • Perform maintenance and repairs to plumbing systems. 
  • Perform tiling repairs. 
  • Perform maintenance painting and decorating. 
  • Perform repairs to plastered surfaces. 
  • Perform maintenance repairs using carpentry and joinery skills. 
  • Perform flooring repairs. 

You will achieve: 

  • IFA Property Maintenance Operative Level 2 
  • End Point Assessment 
  • If required: Functional Skills (English, Maths) 

Next steps: Employment as a maintenance operative within the construction industry. 

Entry Requirements

Every employer is different and therefore the entry requirements can vary. As a guide, you ideally need GCSE grade 3 in English and Maths. However, we will work with you and provide additional support to help you achieve their requirements, either prior to your Apprenticeship or during the delivery of your programme. An interest in the industry is essential.
