This qualification provides an introduction to performance, production and design for the performing arts, enabling you to acquire the essential skills, techniques and methods to progress in further education or employment within the performing arts industry.
What topics will I study?
You will:
- Develop the skills required to communicate through drama, story and narrative, singing and Dance
- Plan and organise a theatre production
- Develop dance and movement skills
- Stage performing arts events to live audiences
- Undertake introductory workshops in lighting, sound, set and costume design
- Work with voice and movement to develop as an overall performer
- Build a website, track your learning digitally and communicate with a global audience
- Explore of a range of progression opportunities and pathways
- Acquire organisational and communication skills such as calendar management, collaborating as part of a team, analytical ability, creative problem solving and meeting deadlines. These sustainable skills are transferable across all subject areas, are highly valued in the job market and will boost the desirability of your CV and application to a Level 3 qualification
This course does not involve formal exams, with all assessment is carried out as coursework both practical and written. There is a continuous assignment assessment process, involving practical and written work. Grades awarded for each assignment go towards a final grade for each unit.
You may have the opportunity of working in professional performing arts spaces within the city.
This course is studied on its own and cannot be combined with other courses.
Next steps: On successful completion of this course you will be able to progress to a Level 3 course or an Apprenticeship.
- Entry Requirements

Four GCSEs at grade 3 or above or equivalent. GCSE English Language is desirable, however both English and Maths GCSE can be achieved as part of this programme of study. You will present an audition piece and take part in a workshop as part of the selection process.
- Facilities

There is a drama theatre in the CCI. You will have access to a learning resource centre and refectory.
- Additional Costs

You will need to have workshop clothing (black t-shirt and leggings/ tracksuit bottoms), for practical work. We charge an annual, non refundable £80 course administration fee. This will cover all compulsory theatre visits, workshops and venue hire.
