What is it like to study this course and how will I be assessed?

A  Technical and Professional Construction Apprentice will further develop their skills in activities including surveying, planning and organising work, and contracting. You will also be given the knowledge you need to develop your skills in your workplace.

What topics will I study?

Topics will include:

  • Understanding sustainable construction
  • Preparing programs and schedules of work in construction
  • Learning about important building regulations
  • Developing skills in construction technology and design
  • Preparing estimates, bids and tenders
  • Graphical detailing, including CAD
  • Understanding building surveying
  • Implementing contract work in construction
  • Monitor, maintain and improve supplies
  • Understanding building technology
  • Learning about project management in construction

What experiences will I get?

You will benefit from links with companies across Devon and gain invaluable skills within industry. 

What are the entry requirements?

Maths and English GCSE, grade C/4 (or equivalent). If you do not have these qualifications our team will support you to gain these skills alongside your apprenticeship. You must have a Level 3 qualification in construction

What facilities are there?

  • Our dedicated Construction Training Centre has undergone a £1 million refurbishment and offers industry-standard facilities for all elements of construction training.
  • This facility includes; a brickaying workshop, plumbing workshop, painting and decorating workshop, carpentry workshop, cafe, social space, ICT suite, learning resource centre, civil engineering equipment and more.

What can the course lead on to?

Some apprentices go straight into employment in a construction company.

What support can I get?

You will have a dedicated Skills Officer who you can contact at any time. They will visit you in the workplace every 10 weeks to carry out a progress review with you and your employer.

What will this training cost me?

This can vary depending on the age of the Apprentice and the size of an organisation. There will be no cost to the Apprentice.
