Gender and Queer Studies – Extend Option

Please note: This course is one of our Extend Options designed to be combined with other A Level programmes or BTEC Extended Certificate courses to make up a full timetable. If you are planning to study an A Level programme at Exeter College you will need to enrol on a four element programme, and cannot apply for this course on it’s own.

A course that explores the essence and existence of queerness in all its various forms across history. Students will explore not just facets of queer identity and the wider LGBTQIA+ community, but also study queer movements in art, film, literature and popular culture. As a key component of the course, students will engage with advanced queer theory to diversify their critical thinking and foster a mature approach to intersectionality. This course is best suited to students taking humanities and/or arts-based subjects. Students will learn primarily through research and collaborative projects, and examinations of texts and case studies.
