This course will provide an introduction to the practical skills and knowledge required in a teaching assistant role and will provide occupational competence to work under the supervision of a class teacher. Topics include safeguarding, managing behaviour, supporting learni9ng and child development. You will also be observed in your workplace and therefore should be volunteering or in employment for at least 12 hours a week in the role before you embark on this qualification.

Overview

This certificate has been designed specifically for people working in a school and supporting children’s learning.

This is a course which lasts up to one year. Your assessor will arrange to see you in your work place to plan assignments and assess your competence. You may also meet with your assessor by appointment on a one to one basis at the college to cover the underpinning knowledge and carry out assessments. An online portfolio system is used which is accessible to you 24/7.

What topics will I study?

This qualification has been designed to provide an introduction to the practical skills and knowledge required in a teaching assistant role and will provide occupational competence to work under the supervision of a class teacher. This is an ideal introductory course for those that are new to the role. Topics covered include safeguarding, managing behaviour, supporting learning and child development.

Entry Requirements

You must be in employment or be volunteering in a real work environment for a minimum of approx. 10-12 hours, have completed a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check and also have good levels of literacy.
