Overview

The Bootcamp will follow the three units of the City & Guilds Award in Hospitality Supervision and Leadership Principles qualification.

Unit 1: Principles of leading a team in the Hospitality Industry: This unit provides the knowledge required to deliver leadership through teams in the hospitality industry.  It includes an understanding of the spectrum of hospitality businesses, along with the key types of organisations and different service styles.   The importance of clear communication and effective teamwork and the consequences of different factors impacting on the hospitality industry.

Unit 2: Supervision of operations in the Hospitality Industry: The aim of this unit is to develop the knowledge and understanding to effectively supervise hospitality operations and enable learners to understand the principles of customer service supervision.  It explores the different types of customer groups, benefits of promoting a good customer service culture, monitoring of standards and strategies to deal with customer issues.

The importance of utilising resources and supplies effectively and recognising the need for appropriate staffing levels. Knowledge and understanding regarding the principles of stock control and cost effectiveness to avoid wastage.  Understanding the impact, both financially and operationally, if correct stock levels are not maintained.

Unit 3: Principles of supervising customer service performance in hospitality, leisure, travel and tourism: This unit will provide in-depth knowledge of how to manage customer service performance in the sector. The is appropriate for supervisory and management staff to enable them to support their staff in providing excellent customer service in the workplace. It covers the impact of customer service on the performance of the business, leading by example, building teams and developing positive professional relationships.  The use of performance indicators, analysis of customer feedback and reviewing organisational standards.  Understanding the importance of staff development, team roles and dynamics.  Knowledge of how training and coaching session can be implemented to improve the delivery of customer serve and how to apply appropriate methods when giving feedback to staff.

This Award is relevant to several occupations within the hospitality industry. Here are some key roles where this qualification is particularly beneficial:

  • Hospitality Supervisor: Overseeing daily operations, managing staff, and ensuring customer satisfaction.
  • Restaurant Manager: Managing restaurant operations, including staff supervision, customer service, and financial management.
  • Front Office Manager: Supervising front desk operations, handling guest inquiries, and ensuring smooth check-in/check-out processes.
  • Housekeeping Supervisor: Overseeing housekeeping staff, ensuring cleanliness standards, and managing inventory.
  • Event Coordinator: Planning and executing events, managing staff, and ensuring client satisfaction.
  • Food and Beverage Supervisor: Managing food and beverage operations, supervising staff, and maintaining service standards.

The Level 3 Award in Hospitality Supervision and Leadership Principles maps directly to the Level 3 Hospitality Supervisor Apprenticeship. This qualification is designed to align with the knowledge, skills, and behaviours required by the apprenticeship standard.

Entry Requirements

Applicants for this course need to be either:

  • Unemployed – committed to actively seeking employment opportunities independently during the course and provide evidence of a job interview and job offer within your subject area.
  • Employed – using the skills learnt in the Bootcamp to take on a new role or duties in your current role.  Your employer will be asked to pay a contribution dependent on the size of the organisation.  If you are part time employed funding will depend on your circumstances.

To apply you will need to meet the following criteria:

  • You are 19 years or over.
  • You have the right to work in the UK.
  • You have lived in the UK or EU/EAA for the last 3 years or have a residency status that makes you exempt from this rule.
  • English skills including written/spoken required with Level 1 being the minimum.
  • You have not completed another Skills Bootcamp in this current financial year.
  • You are committed to participating in delivery sessions for 12 weeks.
  • This course is open to aged 19+ residents of Devon only who have a right to work in the UK.

All applicants will be assessed at interview.
