Japanese Next Steps is aimed at students who have completed Part 1 and 2 of Japanese from Scratch or learned the following topics already and familiar with Hiragana and Katakana:

• Giving personal information
• Numbers and counters
• Time
• Talking about a nearby object and its owner
• Shopping
• Talking about a plan, everyday activities and events
• Dates
• Transport
• Family

What topics will I study?

We will build on your knowledge and skills enabling you to cope with more challenging everyday situations. We also learn Kanji. Learning is through tutor presentation and practice with the emphasis on speaking.

Part 1 – Autumn Term
for those who have competed Part 1 and 2 of Japanese from Scratch or the topics above

• Describing things using adjectives
• Describing impressions using adjectives
• Asking about places
• Asking for a place
• Japanese characters (Kanji)

Part 2 – Spring Term
for those who have completed Part 1 of Japanese Next Steps

• Talking about giving and receiving gifts
• Talking about preferences
• Making an invitation
• Stating a wish
• Japanese characters (Kanji)

Part 3 – Summer Term
for those who have completed Part 2

• Explaining plans using te-forms
• Making a request
• Talking about how to get a place
• Asking permission
• Japanese characters (Kanji)

• Part 1 – Autumn Term: For those who have completed Part 1 and 2 of Japanese from Scratch (please see Overview).
• Part 2 – Spring Term: For those who have already learnt the contents of Part 1 of Japanese Next Steps (please see Overview).
• Part 3 – Summer Term: For those who have already learnt the contents of Part 2 of Japanese Next Steps (please see Overview).
