Crime and Justice – Extend Option
Please note: This course is one of our Extend Options designed to be combined with other A Level programmes or BTEC Extended Certificate courses to make up a full timetable. If you are planning to study an A Level programme at Exeter College you will need to enrol on a four element programme, and cannot apply for this course on it’s own.
Why do this course?
An understanding of Criminology is not just useful for many job roles in the criminal justice centre, but will also enhance your understanding of Psychology, Sociology and Law. This is important for a variety of career paths and disciplines.
What will it involve?
The course will focus on the changing awareness of crime, crime scene to courtroom and explanations to criminal behaviour. You will also analyse how societies have categorised some acts as deviant and why the media sometimes contributes to moral panics about certain kinds of human behaviour. The course will also include creation of your own evidence board and some external talks from a range of employers, universities and subject specialists.
How might it help in the future?
By studying criminology, learners will gain an idea of whether they are interested in pursuing further study in a whole range of related degree areas: BA/BSc Criminology, BA Criminology and Criminal Justice, BSc (Hons) Criminology and Psychology, LLB (Hons) Law with Criminology, BA (Hons) Criminology and Sociology, BA (Hons) Criminology, BSc (Hons) Psychology and Sociology and BSc Criminology with Law.
Alternatively, learners will gain the required understanding and skills to be able to consider employment within some aspects of the criminal justice system, e.g. the National Probation Service, the Courts and Tribunals Service or the National Offender Management Service.

“I study PE, Biology and Psychology A Levels and find they link together nicely. I chose my subjects by thinking about what I enjoy the most and what could help lead to a career in Sports, as that is my main interest.” Read more >
