The course is one day per week over 10 weeks with a coaching and mentoring session to support your professional development. This course is delivered at our Future Skills Centre.

The comprehensive programme will ensure that you emerge from this course armed with the knowledge and skills needed to navigate projects with confidence.

The fundamentals of project management will be covered through taught lessons, practical tasks, case study analysis and expert guest speaker input. It offers organisations the opportunity to upskill their staff with future-critical knowledge.

The course includes the achievement of Chartered Management Institute (CMI) Level 3 Award in Project Management. Recognised globally for its quality and relevance, the certification brings immense value to your professional profile. By completing this course, you will earn a qualification that will set you apart in the competitive job market and allow you to confidently tackle any project management challenge that comes your way.

In addition to comprehensive course materials, available on demand via virtual learning environment, throughout the duration of the course, learners will also have access to CMI’s learning resources and student membership. During the coaching and mentoring sessions there will be progress reviews, an opportunity to further discuss the content of the programme, as well as focusing on Individual Professional Development, reflecting on skills development and individual target setting, and supporting those applying for a change of job role.

In the final weeks of the programme there will be interview preparation, visiting speaker talks and graduation!

Module examples:

 Introduction – (Week 1)

  • Set up on systems
  • Building relationships with the group
  • Induction to the course, CMI qualification and resources

Module 1: Nature and context of projects – (Week 2 – 6)

Target Skills

  • What is a project
  • Similarities and differences between a project and Business as Usual (BAU)
  • Purpose and structure of a project
  • Business contexts of projects
  • Project success factors and characteristics
  • Project life cycle

Module 2: Management of stakeholders including the project team roles and responsibilities  – (Week 7 – 8)

Target Skills

  • Project roles and responsibilities
  • Stakeholder management methods and processes
  • Methods to manage the project team, including leadership skills

Module 3: Planning and control of projects  – (Week 9 – 11)

Target Skills

  • Project planning tools and techniques
  • Project management methodologies
  • Methods and processes available to control a project

At this point the learners will work cross collaboratively with the other learners in groups to work on a final project scenario given by industry. The group will work together to present their solutions to the business and approaches to project management. 

Module 4: Employability – (12)

Target Skills

  • Delivering project plan presentations/pitch projects to a panel of experts
  • Plan and prepare a skills plan to enable learner to be successful in the specific field of project management
  • Interview skills and techniques
  • Mock interviews

Assessment

CMI Award in Project Management written assignment completion – certificated by CMI. Full support provided in the classroom.
The course is considered as complete once attendance and bootcamp milestone evidence requirements are fulfilled.  

Next steps: On the achievement of the course, learners will be able to confidently perform in a project management role, apply for relevant jobs, progress to higher qualifications and professional membership should they wish so.

Entry Requirements

To be eligible for full funding, applicants for this course need to be unemployed – looking for a role in the Project Management field, self-employed or looking for new employment.  If you are employed and are upskilling, your employer may be asked to pay a contribution dependant on your circumstances. This course is open to residents of Devon and Cornwall only. All applicants will be assessed at interview.
