Overview

Get to grips with what it’s like to work as an accountant with this brand new course backed and funded by the UK Government. With changes to working practices, the role of a bookkeeper/accountant has become much broader, with analytical skills, commercial awareness, and business partnering all representing key responsibilities within an organisation. The Accountancy Skills Bootcamp is the perfect introduction for those wanting to understand their business’ finances better, those switching careers or getting started in the professional world, as the programme helps you to understand the fundamental principles and working practices of accountancy.

A free in-person accounting course, the Bootcamp will give learners the ability to confidently understand the documents, terminology, and technical skills required by an accountant, with an end goal of increasing eligibility for career progression and/or educational opportunities – whether onto an Apprenticeship, into full time employment, or into a new role.

The Accountancy Skills Bootcamp will enable you to learn the fundamental skills you will need to work in a finance related role, so you understand basic bookkeeping, fundamental accounting techniques and financial statements. If you are looking to get a flavour of accountancy or just better understand finance in the workplace, this Bootcamp will provide a true introduction to the key concepts, accounting jargon, develop your confidence with business finance, take on a new finance role or enable you to progress onto one of our industry recognised learning programmes with CMI or AAT courses.

The delivery of the course will be through a 1 day a week for 10 weeks.

  • Introduction to finance and accountancy

Week 3-5
  • Introduction to Bookkeeping
Week 6-7
  • Principles of Bookkeeping Controls
Week 8-9
  • Computer accounts and financial statements (SAGE)
Week 10
  • Budgeting and Measuring Performance
  • Plan and Prepare a business plan
  • Interview skills and techniques
  • Mock interviews

Assessment: The Bootcamp is assessed through in class papers and online quizzes and tests. This course is considered as complete once attendance and Bootcamp milestone evidence requirements are fulfilled.

Next Steps: On achievement of the course, learners will be able to progress to:

  • Accounts/Finance Assistant roles
  • AAT Level 2 in Bookkeeping or Accounting/Apprenticeship
  • CMI Level 3/Apprenticeship

Entry Requirements

To be eligible for full funding, applicants for this course need to be unemployed – looking for a role in the Bookkeeping/Accounting field, self-employed or looking for new employment. If you are employed and are upskilling, your employer may be asked to pay a contribution dependant on your circumstances. All applicants will be assessed at interview.

  • You are 19 years or over
  • You have the right to work in the UK
  • You have lived in the UK or EU/EAA for the last 3 years or have a residency status that makes you exempt from this rule
  • Maths & English skills including written/spoken required with Level 1 being the minimum
  • You have not completed Skills Bootcamp in this current financial year.
  • If you are unemployed you are committed to actively seek employment independently and provide evidence of a job interview and job offer within your subject area
  • If you are fully employed, your employer will be asked to pay a contribution. If you are part time employed funding will depend on your circumstances
  • If you are self-employed you are committed to building your business and provide evidence of a business plan that reflects the knowledge and skills, you gave acquired and evidence of engagement with new clients.
  • You are committed to participating in delivery sessions for 10 weeks
