Overview

This course offers you a broad introduction to a career in sport, fitness or public services, and will help you develop the basic skills, knowledge and qualities you need to progress.

On this course you will:

  • Take part in a variety of health and fitness activities. These may include kayaking, hill walking, running and gym work
  • Improve your team working skills
  • Improve your ability in English and Maths in preparation for progression
  • Understand and develop the skills and qualities necessary to work in these industries
  • Benefit from taking part in work experience
  • Have guest speakers and visits to a range of leisure, sport and public service organisations

You will have assignments and coursework, with tests for Maths and English.

This course is ideal if you are thinking of a future career in the leisure, sport or public sectors. You will be able to explore the wide range of services and job roles as you build up the essential skills needed such as, confidence, team building, leadership, organisation, problem solving and fitness.

Future Steps: On successful completion of this course you may be able to progress to a Level 2 course, employment or an Apprenticeship.

Entry Requirements

You will need a minimum of a grade 2 in English Language and Maths. If you don’t have a grade 4 in English and Maths, you will be required to study for this alongside your course. Plus, you will need two additional GCSEs at grade 2 or above, or equivalent. An interest in gaining a job in sport, leisure or the public sector is important.

Facilities

You will have access to all the College facilities, including a student restaurant, gym and fully equipped Learning Resource Centre (LRC). You will also access Haven Banks Outdoor Education Centre.

Additional Costs

A £75 resource fee applies.

The resource fee covers trips and visits, external speakers course material and any additional activities such as kayaking, mountain biking, first aid and expedition equipment.

There will also be some personal equipment that is required, such as walking boots and waterproofs. A full kit list will be given at your interview.
