Overview

This programme will provide evidence of professional development for those already working in the industry. It will provide 20 points of continuing professional development for those on the Register of Exercise Professionals (REPs) and allow the successful candidate to enter REPs at Level 3.

This course is ideal if you have completed the Year 1 Diploma in Physical Activity Fitness and Exercise Science or have completed a Level 2 Fitness Instructor course alongside a BTEC Sport Level 3 Extended Diploma.

You will be taught in Victoria House class rooms, Central Fitness and Sports Hall. Lectures will be both theoretical and practical. Assessments are through oral, written and practical activity as well as exams.

What topics will I study?

  • Study applied human biology for exercise and fitness to understand how the body operates for physical activity
  • Learn the principles of nutrition for a healthy lifestyle
  • Learn about the different elements involved in working one to one with clients, conducting consultations, programme design and advanced methods of delivery
  • Develop exceptional customer care skills
  • Design and prepare a business plan through marketing products and services, studying enterprise and entrepreneurship
  • Learn how technology in sport can be incorporated into mainstream personal training
  • Attain the knowledge to perform sports massage with soft tissue treatments
  • Gain valuable experience in working with real members of Exeter College’s gym facility, delivering inductions and a variety of fitness sessions

What can the course lead on to?
Once qualified you will be able to work self employed as a Personal Trainer or Sports Masseuse, you will be able to progress onto Level 3 GP Referral or Foundation Degree in Sports Therapy/Coaching at Exeter College. UCAS points: P24, M48, D72.

Entry Requirements

You need to have completed the first year of the Level 2 course.

You will need to have completed the first year of the Diploma in Physical Activity,Fitness and Exercise Science or the Level 2 Fitness Instructor plus bridging units to qualify. If you don’t have a grade 4 in English and Maths, you will be required to study for this alongside your course. You will need the personal qualities for working in the health and fitness industry and an enthusiasm for sport.

Facilities

You will have access to the Learning Resource Centre. There is a refectory in Victoria House. Students have the opportunity to take part in enrichment activities. You will receive a free Central Fitness gym membership as part of your work experience contribution.
