During this practical course you will plan and produce a range of media products. It is ideal if you enjoy film making, camera work and editing, and being creative.
Most assignments within the course involve working as teams to produce final media products. You create a portfolio of evidence made up of practical assignments and written assignments. There are short exams for the functional skills elements.
What topics will I study?
You will analyse current media products and present research on current media techniques. The course helps develop technical skills and experience in a variety of equipment and activities through assignments such as music video, TV studio, animation, and advertising.
You will:
- Analyse media products and present research on media techniques
- Produce film trailers, advertising and music videos
- Take part in trips to local cinemas, media companies or TV studios
- Work in our purpose built CCI building using industry standard production equipment, including HD equipment and 4K TV studio
- Develop transferable skills in communication, writing, teamwork, problem solving and creativity
You will be assessed on a portfolio of evidence created during practical and written assignments.
Future Steps: You could progress to the Level 3 Diploma and Extended Diploma in Creative Media Production and Technology before seeking a role in the industry or continuing your studies at university.
- Entry Requirements

You will need five GCSEs (or equivalent such as a Merit in a Level 1 qualification) at grade 3 or above, including English Language and Maths. If you do not achieve a grade 4 in GCSE English
Language or Maths you may still be considered for this course, but you will be required to study this subject alongside your course. You will also need a strong interest in the media and an interest in getting hands on experience in making films as part of a team. - Facilities

Our purpose built Centre for Creative Industries building incudes a TV studio, Edit Suites and you will be able to access all the media equipment such as cameras, audio recorders, hard drives, and Mac’s needed for the course. You will also have access to a Learning Resource Centre (LRC).

It is advised you purchase a USB Pen drive to store your coursework on. Approximately £20 per year in costs for printing of assignments and coursework, DV Tapes for cameras.
