Overview

A Manufacturing Engineering Technician Apprentice focuses on applying engineering principles to the development and implementation of manufacturing processes, producing high quality goods. You will also get experience devising and directing engineering projects.

Topics include:

  • Analytical methods for engineers
  • Learning more about engineering science
  • Project design, implementation and evaluation
  • How to excel at engineering design
  • Computer Aided Design (CAD) and manufacturing
  • Manufacturing planning and scheduling principles
  • Quality and business improvement
  • Programmable logic controllers
  • Materials engineering
  • Advanced Computer Aided Design techniques (CAD)

Optional topics will include:

  • Mechanical principles
  • Electrical and electronic principles
  • Fluid mechanics
  • Electrical power
  • Principles and applications of microcontrollers

Example job roles include: Manufacturing Engineering Technician/Workshop Engineer/ Product Technician/Design Technician.

Next steps… Some Apprentices go straight into employment working within a range of organisations; from well known brands, to smaller niche areas of production.

Entry Requirements

Learners should have completed the Level 3 Engineering Apprenticeship, alongside a C/4 in Maths and English. Applications will be considered for those students who have completed a period of employment who don’t have a full level 3.

Facilities

Apprentices have access to all facilities across college, in particular the new state of the art equipment at our Technology Centre. These include the college Learning Resource Centres and the College Gym.
