Overview

Working in construction also includes the maintenance and repair of buildings. This qualification teaches you how to build and maintain projects in a variety of trade areas.

Who is this course for?

Choose this course if you want to work within the construction industry. This course gives a good overview of many areas which could be suited to maintenance and general building.

What you will study

On this course you will:

  • Health and safety in a construction environment
  • Principles of welfare, health and safety in construction environments
  • Principles of working in the construction industry
  • Tiling repairs and maintenance
  • Plastering and rendering repairs and maintenance
  • Remedial painting and decorating works
  • Maintenance of plumbing and drainage systems
  • Preventative and corrective maintenance of building systems
  • Using carpentry and joinery skills for repairs and refurbishment
  • Corrective maintenance of external property areas
Assessment

You will be assessed through a combination of online and paper based exams with a practical assessment for each trade area.

Entry Requirements

You will need five GCSEs at grade 3 or above, including English Language and Maths. You will be required to study GCSE English or Maths alongside your course if you don’t yet have a grade 4 or above in one of those subjects.

Progression and careers

On completion, you could progress to either an apprenticeship in Property Maintenance Operative or your chosen field in construction or another full time course. For an apprenticeship you need GCSE grade 4 in English and Maths. However, we will work with you and provide additional support to help you achieve the requirements, either prior to your apprenticeship or during the delivery of your programme. You could also progress to a T Level. You will be required to demonstrate that you are enthusiastic and committed to succeeding.
