IT (Digital)

The T Level Transition Programme is designed to prepare you for the full T Level which includes a range of topics that will develop your skills and knowledge in order to progress to Level 3 study or the workplace. This qualification includes NCFE Level 2 Certificates in Cyber Security, Coding and Data Analysis.

You will have classroom lessons, including theory and practical elements and computer lab sessions. As an Apple accredited College, you will also have the opportunity to learn to programme iOS apps using the Apple Suite in our Institute of Technology building.

Your work will be assessed through a portfolio of evidence gathered from assignments and exams.

You will also continue to study GCSE Maths and English, if you do not have a grade 4 or above, as well as core Digital Maths and English. Your work will be assessed through a portfolio of evidence gathered from assignments and exams.

On this course you will:

• Learn through lectures, practical work and presentations to gain a broad overview of computing topics designed to develop your skills and knowledge.
• Prepare for work within the industry.
• You will study units based around Cyber Security, Data Analysis and Programming, giving you theoretical knowledge and practical skills.
• Learn more skills in core Digital Maths and English and professional and academic development,
  preparing you for the workplace or progression on to a full T Level or other Level 3 IT programme or an Apprenticeship.
• Have the opportunity to complete a 30-hour work placement in a computing field.
• Go on trips to places such as the European Gaming Convention and Bletchley Park, plus social trips such as Thorpe Park
• Develop skills through Extra activities such as the Esports Academy or Social Gaming or the Coding Club

This course is ideal if you are interested in computers and want to progress to work or further study in this area.

Next steps: The T Level Foundation Year will give you the skills required to progress to the full T Level in either Digital Production, Design and Development, Digital Business Services or Digital Support Services, the BTEC Foundation/Extended Diploma in Information Technology (Level 3) or the BTEC in Esports (Level 3). Alternatively, you could apply for an Apprenticeship in the IT industry.

You will need at least four GCSEs at grade 3 or a BTEC Level 1 Pass. You must have English Language and Maths at grade 3. In addition, learners are expected to have an interest in computers and/or IT, with a career aim in a computing related field.

Internal applicants will also need a reference from their former tutor.

You will have classroom lessons, including theory and practical elements and computer lab sessions. As an Apple accredited College, you will also have the opportunity to learn to programme iOS apps using the Apple Suite in our Institute of Technology building. You will have access to a Learning Resource Centre. There is a refectory in Victoria House. Students have the opportunity to take part in a full programme of enrichment activities.

Although many of our enrichment activities are free for participants, some activities will incur a fee.
