Ecology and Conservation – Extend Option
Please note: This course is one of our Extend Options designed to be combined with other A Level programmes or BTEC Extended Certificate courses to make up a full timetable. If you are planning to study an A Level programme at Exeter College you will need to enrol on a four element programme, and cannot apply for this course on it’s own.
Why do this course?
This exciting extend course offers the opportunity to gain practical skills and insights into careers in ecology and conservation.
What will it involve?
Practical habitat management – You will participate in work experience with a local conservation organisation where you will develop practical conservation skills that are currently used during habitat management for wildlife. This is an invaluable experience which will give you an advantage in job and university applications.
Scientific investigation – In order to carry out effective conservation, it is essential that changes in biodiversity can be monitored scientifically. You will be taught how to apply scientific methodology, analyse and interpret results and make valid conclusions on data that you will collect during an independent investigation. These are skills that are required in both work and university.
How might it help in the future?
You will attend talks by guest speakers who are professionals in their field and currently work in ecology and conservation roles. This will give you an insight into their day to day tasks and how they got to where they are now. You will also visit a university to explore what it would be like to study for a degree in ecology and conservation.
