This qualification provides a pathway for Exeter College staff to understand assessment and qualify as an assessor. Exeter College staff who wish to achieve this qualification should be assessing competence or non-competence based learning, knowledge or skills and have access to at least two learners to fully demonstrate their competence and meet the qualification requirements for assessment. This qualification is open to Exeter College staff members carrying out assessments in most learning environments including FE, Adult Continuing Learning, Employers and Third Sector. The course is designed for Exeter College staff assessing in all occupational sectors, accredited learning, non-accredited learning (e.g. where performance is being assessed by the learner is not undertaking a qualification).
What will you study?
- Session 1 – Induction/understand principles of assessment (face to face, at Future Skills Centre, FSC)
- Session 2 – Understand principles of assessment (face to face, at Future Skills Centre, FSC)
- Session 3 – Understand different types of assessment methods (face to face, at Future Skills Centre, FSC)
- Session 4 – Understand how to plan assessment, involve others, and make decisions (remote)
- Session 5 – Understand contribution to quality assessment, legal requirements, and CPD (remote)
- Session 6 – Preparation for units 302 and 303 (remote)
The course is delivered one day a week for six weeks (on a Monday) then learners are given 6 months to complete their observations and assignments.
We aim to provide taught sessions to support you with your assignment work and a nominated assessor to guide you through the practical component of the course.

All candidates must have:
- Vocational qualifications (minimum Level 3 or equivalent)
- Grade C or above in GCSE English (or equivalent)
- Grade C or above in GCSE Math’s (or equivalent)
- ICT skills
- DBS check
- Must have a minimum of two learners to assess and gather evidence for the portfolio.
- Facilities

You will have access to a Learning Resource Centre (LRC) with computer access in the College.
There are refectories, Coffee bars plus the @34 restaurant facility.

- Step 2: Complete the 19+ Adult Application Form online via the Online Application System.
