You will work at your own pace developing skills in observational and expressive art techniques, from still life to landscape studies. Suitable for beginners or more experienced students.

Learning takes place through tutor explanations, one to one tutorial dialogue and practical demonstrations, as well learning from other class members.

Demonstrations, instruction and advice will be a central part of the sessions, which will include the following topics:

  • Observational drawing
  • Expressive mark-making in dry and wet media
  • Colour theory and mixing
  • Composition
  • Perspective
  • Watercolour masking
  • Wet to wet washes
  • Examples of relevant artists

Subjects for study may vary, but will include:

  • Landscape from reference photos or from life
  • Still life
  • Figure studies
  • Flowers

In addition, the course will cover technical aspects of watercolour, such as:

  • Specialist papers
  • Brushes
  • Paints
  • Paper stretching
  • Equipment

Entry Requirements

None, this course is suitable for beginners and for the more experienced, as everyone will work individually with tutorial support and guidance.
