“Participating in the CMI (Chartered Management Institute) Level 5 Diploma Course in Leadership and Management as an Apprentice was transformative for me because I developed a positive and inclusive mindset along with a strong commitment to professional and personal development for myself and my team; the skills and knowledge I learned (and continue to learn) through CMI have had a tremendous impact on the work my team and I do; I am more confident, self-aware, and conscious of others’ situations and perspectives; and I am much better at making informed decisions, planning, delivering, monitoring, and reporting on work than I was when I was an “accidental manager.”

The graduation ceremony in the beautiful setting of Exeter Cathedral at the end of the course was a stand out moment for me. This was a great way to celebrate the success of completing the course and recognise the hard work everyone present had put into learning.

It feels wonderful to have been honoured with the prestigious CMI ‘Outstanding Student of the Year’ award recognising the effort I made in learning and applying what I learned in my day to day work. I would like to thank my tutors for nominating me for the award. Being nominated in the first place was surprising and exciting. I feel motivated to continue working in such a way that others think so highly of.”

Ellie was named Outstanding Student of the Year after completing a combined CMI Diploma in Leadership and Management and Operations/Department Manager Apprenticeship (Level 5) at Exeter College.

“I am studying ESOL to improve my English and Maths GCSE at College, as well at the Software Development Bootcamp. I am doing the Bootcamp to find out about Software Development and try to improve my skills and work in IT afterwards perhaps. The course explains the basic fundamentals of software and what work is like as a software developer. On the course we are all friends and we help each other if we don’t understand something. I would recommend Exeter College and I would like to do more study here.”

“After many years working in Law, I was given an opportunity to teach Law A Level. This is something the College is sponsoring me through on the CertEd, so that I have a teaching qualification as well.

We learn how important it is to bring active learning into the classroom, and we do a lot of academic reading around that as part of the course but also lots of practical, hands-on microteaching, so we gain day-to-day skills as well.”

“The tutors are great, they are so experienced and act as mentors as well as tutors and my peers are just incredible…It’s just been a warm, welcoming and supportive group.

The quality of the course was incredible too, the way it was structured and delivered is excellent. It aligns to the national framework by the National Counselling Society, which is a brilliant link as it is the professional body who you will be part of when you qualify.”

“I found the course through online advertising. I wanted to gain more experience, knowledge and confidence around the topic of digital marketing so that I had more accessibility to gain a role in digital marketing. I would highly recommend the digital insights course to others as it was a fun environment to learn in and it became a great opportunity to meet other people. I enjoyed the way of teaching from the tutor, which also meant the way of learning was fun and interesting. The course made me realise how much there is to marketing and therefore helped me understand the route I want to take. Two months after the completion of the course, I gained myself an Apprenticeship in digital marketing. This course aided me with missing knowledge that I needed to take on this role.”
