What is it like to study this course and how will I be assessed?

This three term course is aimed at players with about 1 years' experience, covering a range of skill levels. New students are welcome to join at the start of each term. You will develop existing skills and learn lots more through individual and group tuition. These include: scales, basic notation and tablature to learn melodies in an informal, relaxed class. You will need to bring your own guitar.

What topics will I study?

You will cover the following:

  • Developing skills in  strumming, rhythm and timing
  • Scales for runs and lead playing
  • Chords – how and why they work
  • Fingerstyle techniques
  • Plectrum techniques
  • Instrumental music using tablature
  • Relevant theory

What are the entry requirements?

This is an intermediate course so you should have some experience of guitar playing.

What facilities are there?

The college library and learning resource centre is available for use by students. Learners will be given a college ID badge and have access to all college facilities, including learning centres and computers.
