THE South West’s first purpose-built hospitality and hair and beauty training centre has been hailed as a success as part of a project to “transform” further education.
Exeter College’s £5m centre, which opened this year, is part of the Government’s Building Colleges for the Future programme in which £335m has been spent across the country to transform the further education estate.
The Exeter training centre includes a commercial hairdressing salon, spa and training restaurant.
Colleges for the Future is the largest building programme undertaken by the further education sector.
The programme, which is being led by the Government and the Learning and Skills Council is aimed at increasing the number of people participating in further education and raise achievement.
Bill Rammell, Minister for Further Education, called the investment an “exciting transformation.
He added: “These college openings are proof of the Government’s commitment to create world-class FE facilities that inspire learners and meet the needs of employers.
“Investing in FE is investing in the future productivity and competitiveness of the nation.”
