Overview

This course gives you the basic knowledge and skills you need for a career in brickwork.

Who is this course for?

Choose this course if you enjoy being outdoors, working as part of a team and are self-motivated. Also, it is a great choice if you want to develop your skills and to progress into the brickwork trade.

What you will study

On this course you will cover:

  • Health and safety in a construction environment
  • Principles of welfare, health and safety in construction environments
  • Principles of working in the construction industry
  • Setting out buildings
  • Building solid walls and piers
  • Building cavity walls
Assessment

You will be assessed through a combination of online and paper based exams with a practical assessment for each topic area.

Entry Requirements

You will need five GCSEs at grade 3 including, GCSE English or Maths. You will be required to study GCSE English or Maths alongside your course if you don’t yet have a grade 4 or above in one of those subjects.

Progression and careers

On completion, you could progress on to either an apprenticeship in Bricklaying or another full time course.

For an apprenticeship you need GCSE grade 4 in English and Maths. However, we will work with you and provide additional support to help you achieve the requirements, either prior to your apprenticeship or during the delivery of your programme. You could also progress to a T Level. You will be required to demonstrate that you are enthusiastic and committed to succeeding.
