Level 3 apprentices visit NEC Birmingham for national electrical exhibition

Level 3 construction apprentices attended CEF Live 25 at the National Exhibition Centre (NEC) in Birmingham in early June. The event, dedicated to the latest in electrical wholesale and innovation, provided apprentices with an opportunity to learn from and network with industry professionals from across the UK and further afield.

This unique opportunity was made possible courtesy of the generous support of the local branch of the national electrical wholesalers, CEF Exeter. The branch funded the coach transport, breakfast, and lunch for the entire Level 3 Installation Electrician apprentice group.

Apprentice, Katie Ricketts, commented;

“This was a really good event with loads to see and do. We all felt very well looked after by Branch Manager, Aaron, and the CEF team.”

Aaron Colhoun, who manages CEF Exeter, coordinated the trip, going above and beyond to ensure the apprentices were able to make the most of the exhibition by providing key information about the available competitions and activities, as well as organising food and refreshments.

Apprentices benefitted from talks about the latest sector-specific technologies, competitions, and the many exhibitors who offered insights and valuable information, all of which will support upcoming design projects. The technical discussions also provided crucial updates on industry regulations, offering apprentices both a current and deeper understanding of their field.

Brad Lake attended the event and said; “It was fun. I learnt a lot from the information they provided. Plus, I picked up some great freebies!” Apprentice Harry Pyke added; “I thought it was really good, with plenty of networking opportunities and lots of interesting content.”

The exhibition equipped apprentices with industry insights and valuable connections. College staff who accompanied the group praised the apprentices for their mature and professional conduct throughout, with work-based tutor, Lionel Cassidy, commenting;

“We were immensely proud of how our apprentices represented the College. Their conduct was exemplary; they were fantastic ambassadors.”

CEF Exeter Branch Manager, Aaron, also remarked on a positive experience;

“It was a pleasure to support the learning and development of such a great group.”

The College, and particularly staff in the faculty of Construction, extend a heartfelt thanks to Aaron Colhoun and CEF Exeter for their time and generous support in making such a trip possible.
