Film and TV Production – Extend Option
Please note: This course is one of our Extend Options designed to be combined with other A Level programmes or BTEC Extended Certificate courses to make up a full timetable. If you are planning to study an A Level programme at Exeter College you will need to enrol on a four element programme, and cannot apply for this course on it’s own.
Why do this course?
Students will gain new or develop existing practical skills that are not necessarily provided for within their main programmes of study. The course will promote the acquisition of higher level of IT and technology literacy that is encouraged by many different industries, universities and future employers.
The course is designed to help students feel more confident in using a range of technology, and working collaboratively on projects, all of which can enhance their study across College. Projects will give students the chance to work with other people not necessarily on the same courses as them. It may also appeal to existing film and media students to allow them to hone and develop their skills for higher levels of progression in their academic study.
What will it involve?
The projects will range from getting to know the facilities and equipment, to creating 3 individual pieces. The first half term will involve an introduction to the equipment and a short group production.
The course will then move on to 2 more projects including creating a film based on a script written by the scriptwriting enrichment group.
How might it help in the future?
This project will help students to become proficient in the use of a range of technical software and equipment such as: a DV camcorder and/or a DSLR for moving image production, and in the use of Final Cut Pro (or similar professional editing software if owned by the student). It will also be helpful in developing skills such as managing projects and collaborating on projects. Students will produce (individually or in groups) 3 productions a year.
Entry requirements
An interest in the media and working collaboratively on creative projects. Any technical experience would be useful.
