If you intend to pursue a career in engineering, this course provides the theory and practical skills you will need at the start of your journey.
On this course you will:
- Study mechanical and electrical engineering
- Learn how to work safely and how to use and interpret engineering information, for example using technical data and applying it to a task
- Develop your Maths, Computer Aided Design (CAD) and Engineering Science skills
- Carry out controlled practical work in our fully equipped workshops and laboratories
- Access the automotive workshops to work on engines
- Attend masterclasses from industry experts and visit manufacturing sites
Assessment is by assignments, external examinations, observation and written work.
This course is ideal if you have a passion for engineering but are undecided on your career pathway.
Future Steps: You could progress to the Level 3 Foundation Diploma in Engineering, an Apprenticeship, a T Level or employment in a related subject.
- Entry Requirements

Five GCSEs at grade 3 or above, including English Language, Maths and Science. If you do not achieve a grade 4 in GCSE English Language or Maths you may still be considered for this course, but you will be required to study this subject alongside your course.

The Technology Centre combines the training and teaching of aerospace, engineering and automotive students with access to state of the art equipment within world class facilities. The CAD/CAM Suite includes 25 computers running the latest versions of AutoCAD, Inventor, Solid Works, EdgeCAMand SIEMENS 828d/840d control. The software will allow engineering students to experience ‘industry standard’ software and CNC machining equipment that give an understanding of CAD for manufacture. We also have an advanced manufacturing and robotics facility, which sees 9 robotic cells and production line, as well as coordinate measuring machines, rapid prototyping and CNC manufacture. You will also have access to:

- Industrial IT room
- Advanced Manufacturing Workshops
- Automation and Robotics Workshops
Our Learning Resource Centres (LRCs) give you access to a huge range of online books and resources to help you with your studies.
