Overview

Our set scheme of work will guide you through a variety of subjects and ideas this term. Each week, you’ll encounter new themes and activities designed to inspire and challenge you.

By the end of the term, you’ll contribute to a class anthology, showcasing your best work. Plus, you’ll have the chance to enter our class Flash Fiction competition, putting your storytelling skills to the test.

Participate in class discussions and share ideas with your peers. These sessions will help you analyse your work, develop your ideas, and improve your writing skills.

Each workshop will focus on a different theme or objective, such as:

  • Characterisation and Narrative Voice: Learn how to create compelling characters and unique narrative voices.
  • Recreation of Plot: Experiment with plot structures to craft engaging stories.
  • Memories and Childhood: Draw from personal experiences to create relatable and evocative stories.
  • The Impact of Sound and Colour: Discover how sensory details can enhance your writing.

Examine a variety of published works for inspiration and work towards creating your own pieces. You’ll have the opportunity to rework earlier pieces or develop new ones during our workshops.

Produce work in class, discuss homework in the next session, and receive constructive feedback. This process will help you continuously develop your writing skills.

Entry Requirements

None, previous experience of writing would be useful but not essential.
All Leisure Courses are for adults aged 19+

Learners will be given a College ID badge and have access to all College facilities, including Learning Resource Centres (LRCs) and computers.
