What is it like to study this course and how will I be assessed?

You will spend 1-2 days a week in college studying English, maths and complete a Level 1 Award in Work Skills. You will spend 3-4 days a week at your work placement where you will build a base knowledge of your chosen industry, giving you a head start for when you progress in to your Apprenticeship.

What experiences will I get?

All students are required to complete a minimum of 200 hours on a work placement over no less than six weeks.

What are the entry requirements?

Learners are expected to achieve functional skills L1 or L2 if they have not already achieved a C/4 grade at GCSE or a Level 2 in functional skills. Learners should also have a strong idea of what Apprenticeship area they wish to progress in to. You will need an employer to support your work placement in order to start this programme.

What can I study alongside this course?

This course is studied on its own and cannot be combined with other courses.

What facilities are there?

We are located in Exeter College’s Guildhall suite based in the heart of the city. We are close to all local bus routes and amenities. There is an IT suite located onsite as well as being walking distance to other college sites.

What can the course lead on to?

The main aim of this programme is to lead students on to an apprenticeship, full time work or education are also feasible progression routes.

This further education course is free for all 16-24 year olds who are resident in the UK and the European Economic Area for the last 3 years. (You must be under 25 on 31st August in the calendar year that you start your course).
