What is it like to study this course and how will I be assessed?

This course provides you with an introduction to business, your interest in gaining a job in business will enable you to make the most of this vocational course.  An important part of this course will also be to improve your Maths and English skills, and give you the confidence to go on to a Level 2 course or out to work.

You will be taught mainly in a group but you will also need to be motivated to work independently on assignments. For your business course you will be assessed via assignments and coursework and will complete a work experience placement.

You will need to sit tests to assess your Maths and English.

What topics will I study?

You will use practical skills, communication and team working skills to increase your business knowledge and improve your career opportunities.

You will complete 10 units of work during which you will learn how be organised, work with others, conduct research, find out about local businesses,  organise a meeting, present a business idea, run an event and record income and expenditure.

What experiences will I get?

Work placement undertaken as part of the course.

What are the entry requirements?

English and Maths entry requirements: Grade 2 in English language and Maths.

Plus standard entry requirements: Two GCSEs at grade 2 or above, or equivalent.

Subject specific entry requirements: An interest in gaining a job in business is really important.

What can I study alongside this course?

This course is studied on its own and cannot be combined with other courses.

What facilities are there?

You will have access to all the college facilities, including a student restaurant, full media suite and fully equipped learning resource centre.

What can the course lead on to?

On successful completion you may be able to progress to a Level 2 course or an apprenticeship. Some students choose to seek employment.

Course fees are applicable.

This further education course is free for all 16-18 year olds who are resident in the UK and the European Economic Area for the last 3 years. (You must be under 19 on 31st August in the calendar year that you start your course).
