Data is increasingly recognised as a vital asset for businesses, offering valuable insights to inform decision-making and future planning. To unlock this potential, organisations require data analysts capable of identifying data needs, sourcing and integrating diverse datasets, modelling and preparing data for analysis, and communicating findings to stakeholders. Our Level 4 HTQ Data Analyst module provides professionals with the essential skills and tools to thrive in this role, covering fundamental data analysis concepts and enabling learners to perform key tasks in data integration, preparation, and analysis.
This programme goes beyond technical understanding – individuals will also develop skills to communicate and collaborate with others in diverse and cross-functional environments.
This qualification comprises one Digital Core module at Level 4 and one Data Analysis module at level 4..
The Digital Core Module, introduces the key concepts of:
- Cyber security
- Networks
- Systems and Application
- Data
- Programming
The Data Analysis Module, introduces the key concepts of:
- Data classification
- Data structures (Lists, arrays, records, trees, tables)
- Principles of data analysis (decision, descriptive, predictive, prescriptive analytics)
- Data Architecture (migration, modelling, warehousing, database design)
- Data preparation and integration
- Data analysis lifecycle
To gain a BCS Level 4 Digital Modular Programme certificate, a learner will need to complete both modules.
The course is assessed by two digital exams and a project which can be either work-orientated or synoptic.

This course is open to adults who are over 19 years old.
You will need five GCSEs (including Maths), and either a Level 3 or equivalent in Maths.
Students with relevant industry experience in a Data role will also be considered eligible.
Other relevant qualifications or experience, which might include:
- Work experience – this will be particularly important if you are beginning an Apprenticeship as an existing employee.
- Previous education, training or qualifications – these will be in a subject related to the sector you wish to specialise in, and will go beyond English and Maths.
- Any previous Apprenticeship you have completed or started.
Please be aware that Exeter College does not hold a CAS licence, and therefore is unable to consider applications from prospective learners who require a Student Visa. Non-UK nationals can be considered for courses as long as they already hold the Right to Study in the UK for purposes other than education.

The Digital and Data Centre is a £10.3million building which opened in July 2021. Complete with digital learning laboratories, state-of-the-art IT suites and interactive seminar spaces, learners have access to cutting edge equipment to help gear them to move directly into industry or further study.
