Michael Caines Academy Celebrates Exceptional Graduates Shaping the Future of Hospitality
Exeter College proudly celebrated the latest cohort of graduates from the prestigious Michael Caines Academy this week, marking another milestone in the development of the next generation of hospitality professionals.
The inspiring evening brought together students, staff, industry leaders, and family members to honour the achievements of 16 dedicated second-year students who have completed the Academy’s rigorous two-year programme.
The event, held at the College’s @34 Restaurant, was more than just a celebration — it was a powerful showcase of the talent, ambition, and hands-on experience that sets Michael Caines Academy students apart.

“Congratulations to the 16 students who’ve done incredibly well — they’ve been a fantastic cohort,” said Michelin-starred chef Michael Caines MBE. “It’s a very special occasion. To see them grow from timid 16-year-olds into young professionals ready to take on the challenges of the industry is fantastic. We desperately need to usher in the next generation of talent and make hospitality a first choice career. That’s what this programme is about.”
As is tradition, the evening featured first year Academy students preparing and serving food for their graduating peers and guests — a live demonstration of the practical, real-world training embedded into the curriculum.

Graduating student Finn Clark reflected on the unique opportunities that set the Academy apart: “The past two years have been incredible. The experiences we’ve had, competitions, visiting vineyards and suppliers, completing work placements, no other college offers that. I’ve been offered a job where I did my placement, but before that I’m going to travel a bit and work across Europe. It’s exciting.”
Jessica McNaughton, another graduating student, shared how the Academy helped her find her direction: “I started out not really knowing what I wanted to do. But the experiences, from working front of house to working with chefs during placements, opened my eyes. I’ve now got an apprenticeship lined up in hospitality management, and I’m really excited for the future.”

The restaurant at Exeter College, @thirty-four continues to go from strength to strength, recently being shortlisted for the College Restaurant of the Year award, a testament to its high standards and innovation. The College also marked a major milestone this week with the opening of The Vinery, a striking new extension to the training restaurant, officially unveiled by the Head of Ofsted, Matthew Coffey.
The Michael Caines Academy, established in partnership with Exeter College, continues to raise the standard for hospitality education in the UK. With a focus on industry immersion, technical excellence, and personal development, the programme ensures students leave not only with qualifications but with clarity, confidence, and real-world experience.
“Our curriculum is dedicated to preparing students for a demanding industry,” Caines added. “It’s about the right attitude, continuous learning, and passion. These young people are the future — and they’re ready.”
