Psychology 101 – Extend Option

This course is one of our Extend Options designed to be combined with other A Level programmes or BTEC Extended Certificate courses to make up a full timetable. If you are planning to study an A Level programme at Exeter College, you will need to enrol on a four element programme and cannot apply for this course on its own.

Why do this course?

This Extend session introduces students to the fascinating world of psychology – the scientific study of the mind and behaviour. Learners will explore key questions such as: Why do people behave the way they do? How do memory, perception, and emotion shape our everyday lives? The session will include interactive activities and thought experiments designed to spark curiosity, such as testing short-term memory, exploring optical illusions, and considering classic psychological studies. Students will also discuss how psychology applies to real-world contexts like education, mental health, and the workplace. No prior knowledge is needed, making this an accessible and engaging introduction for anyone curious about human behaviour.

By the end of the session, learners will have a taste of the different branches of psychology and an understanding of its relevance to both academic study and everyday life.
