Mooting – Extend Option

Please note: This course is one of our Extend Options designed to be combined with other A Level programmes or BTEC Extended Certificate courses to make up a full timetable. If you are planning to study an A Level programme at Exeter College you will need to enrol on a four element programme, and cannot apply for this course on it’s own.

Mooting is a dynamic, court-style activity where students take on the role of barristers to argue a legal case in front of a “judge.” In this Extend, learners will be introduced to the structure of a moot, explore how to build persuasive arguments, and practise presenting confidently under timed conditions.

  • Course Type School Leaver
  • Subject Area Humanities and Social Sciences
  • Qualification Extend 🧩
  • Study Mode: Full Time
  • Course Level Level 3
Why do this course?

In this Extend, learners will be introduced to the structure of a moot, explore how to build persuasive arguments, and practise presenting confidently under timed conditions. Working in small teams, students will analyse a short legal scenario, identify key issues, and then present their submissions before receiving constructive feedback. Mooting develops critical skills valued both in education and the workplace, including public speaking, logical reasoning, teamwork, and quick thinking. This session provides a taste of what it’s like to engage in legal debate, while also boosting confidence and communication skills.

No prior legal knowledge is required, making it an accessible but challenging opportunity for all learners interested in law, politics, or improving their debating skills.
