Learners wishing to pursue a career as a hairdresser. This qualification is suitable for anyone over the age of 16 years and no prior qualifications are needed. This qualification covers a very wide range of skills and knowledge required for preparing to work in the hairdressing industry and could lead to a job as a hairdresser working in one of the following establishments: hair salon, spa, cruise ship and hotel salon.
Topics include:
- Professionalism and values
- Behaviours and communication
- Safe working practices
- Consultation
Apprentices will need to be working towards and achieve the following job role requirements before their end point assessment:
- Shampoo, condition and treat the hair and scalp
- Cut hair using a range of techniques to create a variety of looks
- Style and finish hair using a range of techniques to create a variety of looks
- Colour and lighten hair using a range of techniques
Next steps: On completion you could progress on to the Level 3 Hairdressing Apprenticeship or into employment working within a range of organisations.
- Entry Requirements

Every employer is different and therefore the entry requirements can vary. As a guide you ideally need GCSE grade 4 in English and Maths. However, we will work with you and provide additional support in order to help you achieve the functional skills element or GCSE requirements of the Apprenticeship. Support can be delivered either prior to your Apprenticeship or during the delivery of your programme. You need to be passionate about a career in hairdressing and be employed in the industry.

There are several very well equipped hairdressing salons within our Laurence Building including our brand new showcase salon. All our students experience our busy commercial environment and gain many assessments on real clients.
Our Learning Resource Centres (LRCs) give you access to a huge range of online books and resources to help you with your studies.
