Overview

Learn how to use advanced tools for typography, graphics, and page formatting to create complicated layouts such as brochures, posters, books, and interactive PDFs.

Adobe InDesign is the industry standard desktop publishing software used for creating and designing layouts for print and digital media. Learning this leading professional graphic design software can help build essential skills and confidence to tackle professional design challenges or study graphic design at a higher level.

You will learn how to:

  • Produce accurate layouts using smart guides and align tools
  • Place, scale, arrange, and organise images
  • Create custom text styles: paragraph & character styles,
  • Create interactive files to include buttons, links and page navigation
  • Draw vector curves with the Pen Tool
  • Create type on a path
  • Using layers to organize content
  • Wrap text around graphic objects
  • Create multi-spread documents
  • Export to PDF for print and interactive documents
  • Prepare documents for commercial printing – pre-flighting & packaging
  • Understand the basics of the CMYK and RGB colour process
  • Using Master pages with nested master pages

Next steps: On completion of this course, progress to Develop Your Own Project with Adobe InDesign and/or Illustrator in the Summer term

Entry Requirements

This is an in-depth professional design software so is only suitable for those with good basic computer skills.

Facilities

Learners will be given a college ID badge and have access to all college facilities, including learning centres and computers. All computers have Adobe CC on Windows 10. You can use this software outside of lesson time in the Learning Centres.

Additional Costs

It would be an advantage, but not essential, to obtain a copy of Adobe CC whilst on the course.
