The Level 2 Diploma in Adult Care is a qualification that combines both knowledge-based and competency-based elements, resulting in 46 QCF credits upon completion. The course offers various pathways depending on your work setting and job role.

This is an intermediate-level qualification that recognises your ability to develop a solid understanding of the subject and perform a range of tasks. It is primarily designed for individuals working independently in face-to-face roles with service users.

Teaching and learning methods

All delivery takes place in the workplace and via the Onefile portfolio. This course is suitable for independent learners.

Modules and assessment

There will be practical assessments for each unit which will take place in the workplace by a qualified College Assessor.

All theory will be assessed through assignments and professional discussions, while your practical skills will be assessed in your workplace using various methods, including observations, in line with the requirements of the City & Guilds of London Institute. Therefore, you must be employed in an Adult Health and Social Care setting. You will be supported by your Skills Officer to build an electronic portfolio of evidence.

You will undertake a range of mandatory units some of which are listed below together with optional units which you will choose to suit your job role.

  • Unit 201 Safeguarding and protection in care settings
  • Unit 202 Responsibilities of a care worker
  • Unit 203 Communication in care settings

Career options and progression

The course is designed to give you the knowledge to embark on a career in care and meet the requirements laid down in the Care Standards Act 2000. You may be able to progress onto the Level 3 Diploma in Adult Care.

Entry Requirements

You must be working in health and social care and must complete a Disclosure and Barring Service check (formerly CRB) for your employer. You need excellent communication and organisational skills and be motivated to learn. You will have to undertake an interview and complete a skills scan. This is suitable for people starting out in the sector and for those with more experience who want to gain a meaningful work related, competency based qualification.
