An Autocare Technician Apprentice will be carrying out a range of services and repairs to cars, car derived vans, light goods vehicles, and heavy goods vehicles.

This course is ideal for candidates wishing to enter the world of automotive. Candidates should have an interest in motor vehicles, a desire to learn and understand electrical systems, enjoy problem solving and have a commercial awareness.
Topics include:
- How to perform routine vehicle servicing
- How to select and use a range of tools, measuring and diagnostic equipment to identify and repair simple system faults
- How to remove and refit engine, electrical, and chassis components
- How to contribute to good housekeeping within the workplace
- Health and Safety and identifying workplace hazards
- Learning to maintain positive working relationships
- Developing communication skills through interacting with customers
Apprentices will need to be working towards and achieve the following job role requirements before their end point assessment:
- Routine vehicle servicing
- Removing and refitting engine, electrical, and chassis components
- Carrying out vehicle safety inspections and routine maintenance
- Replace/repair and balance a range of light vehicle tyres, including ultra-low profile, directional, asymmetric and run-flat tyres, fitted to a range of wheel sizes and types
- Work on a modern fleet of vehicles using the latest equipment
- Demonstrate skills in handling customers, communication and problem solving
As part of the Apprenticeship you will obtain:
- Level 2 Electric Vehicle qualification
- Level 3 Refrigerant handling qualification
Next steps: You could go on to a Level 3 Automotive Apprenticeship such as our Motor Vehicle Service and Maintenance Technician (Light Vehicle) Apprenticeship or Heavy Vehicle Service and Maintenance Technician Apprenticeship. When you are fully qualified, you could become an MOT tester, electric vehicle technician, IRTEC inspector Heavy Vehicle (HV), service manager or master technician.
- Entry Requirements

Every employer is different and therefore the entry requirements can vary. As a guide, you ideally need GCSE grade 4 in English Language and Maths.
If you are 19 or over, functional skills are not required unless requested by the apprentice’s employer.
However, we will work with you and provide additional support to help you achieve their requirements, either prior to your Apprenticeship or during the delivery of your programme.

You will study at our Technology Centre, which includes:
- A large modern fully equipped workshop
- A state of the art automotive diagnostic laboratory with test simulators and rigs
- A dedicated IT laboratory with internet access
- Four specific automotive training classrooms
- Additional Costs

You will need to purchase some tools and garage equipment eventually.
