This wide-ranging course is for you if you are interested in the culture and society of Graeco-Roman antiquity and its impact upon the modern world.
You will be examined by written examination through essays and analysis of texts and images of material culture.
You will:
- Study the great epic poetry of the ancient world, wonderful stories of travel and adventure, of Gods and monsters, of war, love and loss
- Learn about great figures from the ancient world, the foundations of Rome and the way in which poetry and artefacts were used to cultivate an image of power
- Enjoy delving into the Greek and Roman ideas of love and philosophy
- Cover Greek and Roman art, literature, philosophy, religion, politics, historical context, and society from the Bronze Age to late antiquity
- Learn about the founding of modern civilisation through studying the literature, culture and thought of the Graeco-Roman world
There may be the opportunity to visit Rome to see some of the artefacts we study.
This course can be combined with A Levels or BTEC Certificates to make up a full time programme of study, it goes well with A Levels in English Literature, History and Philosophy.
Future Steps: This course will enhance your knowledge and understanding of the classics. This subject is highly regarded by both universities and employers. Future job roles might include museum gallery curator, teacher, archaeologist, editorial assistant, academic researcher, journalist, civil servant, archivist, chartered accountant, higher education lecturer, marketing officer, solicitor, barrister, writer or politician.

You will need eight GCSEs at grade 4 or above, including Maths, and English Language.
