Overview

This Apprenticeship is aimed at experienced staff working in support roles in a specific clinical practice, alongside registered healthcare professionals. Your core responsibility will be to provide, supervise and coordinate high-quality and compassionate health and social care for a wide range of people.

Topics include:

  • Providing high quality, evidence-based clinical, diagnostic and therapeutic care
  • Supervising, teaching and mentoring others
  • Managing caseload with minimal supervision
  • Communicating effectively
  • Standards and legislations
  • Assessing and managing risk
  • Quality improvement, audit and research activities

Apprentices will need to be working towards and achieve the following job role requirements before their end point assessment:

  • Following legislation, standards, policies and protocols
  • Contributing to the on-going holistic assessment of individuals
  • Delivering clinical, diagnostic and therapeutic interventions
  • Communicating complex sensitive information effectively
  • Promoting health and wellbeing of individuals
  • Maintaining a safe and healthy working environment

Next steps: On completion you could progress on to a Degree Apprenticeship or into full time employment within NHS Band 4 Roles.

Entry Requirements
Due to the nature of the experience and prior qualifications required applicants will be 18 or over at the course start date.

You will need to have one of the following L3 qualifications:

  • 64 UCAS points
  • Three A Levels at grades DDD or above (at least one science subject)
  • BTEC National Diploma or QCF Extended Diploma (Healthcare or Applied Science)
  • Access to HE Diploma (Healthcare or Science)
  • T Level Health/Healthcare Science/ Science (grade C/4 or above in core elements)

Equivalent qualifications may be considered, including workplace delivered NVQs.

You must currently be working in a Band 3 NHS (or private clinical equivalent ) role, and your employer will need to support your application and release you from work for your college training day.

You will also need GCSE Maths and English (or equivalent) grade C/4 or above.

If you are 19 or over, functional skills are not required unless requested by the apprentice’s employer.

Facilities

You will study in a designated simulation suite, to include hospital, GP and community setting.

As an Apprentice, you will have full access to the College facilities including the Learning Resource Centre (LRC).

There is a refectory in the Hele Building which you can access when attending College.

Additional Costs

Books and resources required for study at Exeter College will all be provided. There may be suggested further reading that Apprentices can purchase but are not mandatory.
