Overview
This course is a two-year programme, and it is ideal if you are looking for an extensive, general preparation for a career in health or social care.
Who is this course for?
Choose this course if you wish to pursue a career in (amongst others) nursing, midwifery, paramedic science, social work, psychology and youth work.
- What you will study

On this course you will:
- Study Equality, Diversity and Rights in Health and Social Care
- Look at infection prevention and control in social care or health science
- Find out about working in Health and Social Care
- Undertake reflective practice
- Choose a pathway in second year: Social Care or Health Science
- Study units which cover Anatomy and Physiology, Research Skills, Human Growth and Development, Sociology, Psychology, Genetics and Biomedical Science
- Undertake work experience, totalling a minimum 175 hours in vocational settings across the two years, 75 hours in Year 1 and 100 hours in Year 2.

Internally marked assignments and externally marked assessments.
- Entry Requirements

You will need five GCSEs at grade 4 or above, including English Language and Maths*, plus two additional GCSEs at grade 3 or above.
You will be required to complete a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check for your work placements.
Science is recommended at grade 4 or above if you wish to become a nurse or work in a health-related field.
Progression and careers
In addition to the careers mentioned in the previous paragraph, you could go on to university level study or an apprenticeship in a wide range of health and social care related subjects such as nursing, teaching and social work.
The Level 3 Extended Diploma study programme is eligible for UCAS points. Please check the UCAS website for more information.
