Overview
The Lead Adult Care Worker Apprenticeship is designed for those looking to progress their career within the health and social care sector. Lead Adult Care Workers provide high-quality, compassionate care and support to adults, helping them achieve their personal goals and live as independently and safely as possible. They also take on additional responsibility by acting as role models and providing support and guidance to less experienced members of staff.
Who is this course for?
This apprenticeship is aimed at individuals who want to progress their career in health and social care and move into a senior care role.
It is ideal for those who are passionate about supporting adults, promoting independence and wellbeing, and developing leadership skills within a care setting. Learners will be expected to provide high-quality care while taking responsibility for supporting and guiding colleagues.
- What you will study

During the apprenticeship, you will develop the knowledge and skills needed to work effectively in a senior adult care role, including:
- Safeguarding and protection in adult care settings and services.
- Understanding mental capacity and restrictive practice.
- Understanding duty of care.
- Promoting choice and independence in adult care settings and services.
- Supporting individuals with their health and wellbeing.
- Understanding personal wellbeing.
- Applying person-centred approaches to care and support.
- Developing leadership, communication and professional practice skills.

A summative assessment completed by an Independent End Point Assessor from CACHE/NCFE once all on-programme elements have been completed.
The assessment method for Level 3 Lead Adult Care includes:
- Self Assessment
- Test
- Professional Discussion
- User Witness Testimonies
- Entry Requirements

Every employer is different and therefore the entry requirements can vary.
As a guide, you will need GCSE grade 4 in English and Maths. However, we will work with you and provide additional support to help you achieve their requirements, either prior to your apprenticeship or during the delivery of your programme.
You need patience, understanding, a strong desire to work with people and good communication skills. You will be required to complete a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check for your employer.
If you are 19 or over, functional skills are not required unless requested by the apprentice’s employer.
Progression and careers
On completion, you could progress directly into the workplace as a care assistant in line with the National Minimum Care Standards. Alternatively, you may choose to go on to a Level 3 Lead Adult Care Worker Apprenticeship.
