Overview

The Level 5 Specialist Teaching Assistant Apprenticeship is designed for experienced teaching assistants who want to develop advanced specialist knowledge and skills to support learners in a range of educational settings. Apprentices may specialise in supporting learners with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), social and emotional wellbeing, English as an Additional Language (EAL), forest school provision, music education, subject-based interventions, or other specialist curriculum areas.

The programme develops the expertise needed to plan, deliver and evaluate learning support, advocate for pupils, work collaboratively with professionals, and create inclusive learning environments that enable all learners to achieve their potential.

Who is this course for?

This apprenticeship is aimed at experienced Teaching Assistants who already work within an educational setting and are looking to progress into a specialist support role.

Assessment

A summative assessment completed by an Independent End Point Assessor from NCFE once all on-programme elements have been completed. The assessment method for Level 5 Specialist Teaching Assistant includes:

  • Observation
  • Professional Discussion with portfolio
Entry Requirements

Minimum course entry requirements are Grade 4/C for GCSE Mathematics and English (either Language or Literature) or equivalent. Some experience is desirable but not essential.

Apprentices aged 16-18: If the apprentice has not achieved GCSE English Language and/or Maths Grade 4/C, they are required to study towards, and complete, relevant Functional Skills qualifications.

Apprentices aged 19+: Apprentices can choose to study towards English and Maths qualifications if they wish. Employers may also require them to if these skills are relevant to the role.
